Carl was a man of rare and genuine qualities - modest yet big-hearted, quiet but with a sharp and dry sense of humour. Quite simply there was no side to Carl, nothing fake or false, and because of that I always felt at ease in his company. Carl was a sound bloke - a true gent - who will be missed by all. Stephen Layne
